Samara Private Game Reserve. – A few months ago I was invited to visit Samara Private Game Reserve in the Karoo, Eastern Cape and cherished every moment shared in this beautiful wilderness, writing about it and of my great love for the area and the conservation ethos they’ve established. I highly recommend a visit here and keep Samara close in my heart.
I recently also contributed to their blog with some ideas on what to pack and how to prepare for your visit – The Complete Karoo Packlist – Our Samara Safari Essentials.
Now to help make a Samara safari a reality, they are offering guests who book directly with them for The Karoo Lodge, a 15% discount as part of their special Christmas offering.
Christmas is a time for love, laughter and quality time with family, add to that a breathtakingly beautiful landscape, the opportunity to track wild animals on foot, and plenty of activities for family members young and old to enjoy themselves and you have the perfect recipe for a wonderful Christmas break.
The team at Samara has also put together a traditional Christmas dinner menu which will be served in the boma, and a Christmas Day picnic lunch to be enjoyed on top of the mountain where the vistas of the Karoo present their full glory.
Located on 70,000 acres of wilderness in the Great Karoo, in the heart of the plains of the Camdeboo only 270km from Port Elizabeth and 53km from the nearest town of Graaff Reinet, Samara offers easy access to visitors on excellent roads.
The abundant land – which has been allowed to rest over a period of 20 years – preserves a complex and diverse ecosystem. Four vegetation biomes provide habitat for over 60 mammal species, including aardvark, Cape mountain zebra, giraffe, black and white rhino, buffalo, eland, gemsbok and cheetah to name but a few.
This malaria free property is geared to accommodate families and the team is passionate about educating the youth about wildlife and conservation. Family activities include game drives, exciting walking safaris tracking cheetah and rhino as well as picnics in the bush or on a cliff top.
The accommodation is in keeping with a traditional Karoo-style farmhouse, with various options to suit guests’ needs. The Lodge Suites in The Karoo Lodge and standalone Karoo Suites can accommodate families of up to 5. The exclusive-use Manor House has four rooms, accommodating larger groups or families and can be booked exclusively.
