Giant Welwitschia, near Swakopmund

From the Moonscape view points we drove a further hour inland in search of the giant Welwitschia. Not just any Welwitschia, but the giant one. Said to be 1500 years old, it is protected in an enclosed are and there is a wooden viewing deck. I completely understand why, but at the same time I would have loved to give the brave old lady a hug, the things she must have seen in her days …

The parking area with charming rusty and decorated dirt bins.

Remote long drop loo, a welcome and wonderful site – and what a view!
