I fell in love with a Mommy pig. They call her Scratchy.

At Grootbos’ Growing the Future project, pigs form part of the animal husbandry course. ’Scratchy’ – pictured here enjoying some loving – is resident Mom deluxe who has produced many litters of healthy piglets in her time. Currently in retirement she lives her senior years here munching away, hanging out in the shade, enjoying occasional mud baths as well as a scratch from any willing visitor. Which of course, included me.

Look at that face! So much love for it.

Meet some of Scratchy’s young.
