I know I said I wouldn’t travel again this year. But tomorrow I head to SWITZERLAND with SWISS for a Taste of Winter.

Switzerland – A few weeks back I got an email from Danica Helfrich, the Head of SWISS South Africa, with a fairly straight forward question. Are you available from 4-10th December for a Media Trip to Switzerland? I obviously, said yes.

As some of you may know, I had the pleasure of travelling to Switzerland with SWISS International Air Lines in September 2014, which offered me my first look at this pristine and organised country. I’ve written many posts and shared loads of articles and photographs at #SwitzerlandWithSWISS.

Since then I’ve nurtured the much valued relationship and have had numerous opportunities to work with Danica and SWISS, both privately, with Travel Massive and on numerous of their projects. I love their work and much appreciate any collaboration I can be involved in.

The invitation therefore to join her and a handful of South Africans to take in Switzerland in Winter on the #InLoveWithSwitzerland campaign, was one I couldn’t resist. A rush around and rather panicked Visa Application later, I am almost ready to pack my bags and head off to discover a whole new side of this beautiful country and what it offers, with the focus directed at travel, food, fashion and active holiday. This will be the first time I’ll see Europe in Winter.

We fly tomorrow and the itinerary will have us arrive in Zurich before taking a train to Lucerne where we will spend the night at Hotel Waldstätterhof. From here a trip to Engelberg-Titlis to see the Titlis Glacier Mountain, taking the first revolving cable car Titlis Rotair to the top for lunch and a walk.

Sunday has us on a guided walking tour with Lucerne Tourism and visiting the Christmas Markets before taking a train to Montreux where we will stay at Hotel EurotelDiscoveries here include a visit to the famous Chocolate Factory Läderach and Lunch at Le National.

Next it’s Saas Fee and two nights at Hotel The Capra, where we will get our skis and enjoy a typical Swiss Dinner at the restaurant Vieux Chalet. The morning will see me have my first ever skiing lesson – don’t worry, I’ve taken out comprehensive insurance – and I’m really excited. Irrespective of results, this is something I’ve always seen photos of and hoped to try.

Lunch at the highest revolving restaurant and an afternoon at the Aqua Allalin Wellness centre will be followed by a torch lit walk through the snowy landscape, bringing this active day to a close.

Our last day has us in Bern for lunch, a walking tour and shopping, before heading back to Zurich for our night flight out and home. It’s a full and diverse itinerary and the richness of culture, tradition and good food is sure to delight throughout.

Thank you SWISS for this wonderful pre-Christmas gift. What a way to bring closure to an incredible travel infused year!
