Magaliesburg’s Matlapa Lodge

Every year we attend two wine shows in Magaliesburg where we present our Jorgensens’ Distillery products. Magaliesburg is situated about an hour north west of Johannesburg, and provides open space and a breakaway from the city for many. Last year whilst in the area we spent a night at the Matlapa Lodge and it was charming!

Matlapa is situated on 60 hectare’s of unspoiled countryside with magnificent views, and the thatched roofs and stone masonry add to the natural charm. The accommodation is in en suite chalets with old fashioned baths, an outside shower and wooden decks, furnished with antique beds and lovely linen, blankies and a fireplace for winter. The gardens are amazing with 70 species of indigenous trees and flowers. There is a restaurant on site which means you can enjoy a good meal with wine – and no driving.

You may want to note that Matlapa is only 16km from Maropeng (Cradle of Humankind).

Outside each chalet is a little courtyard with an outdoor shower, we took this pic of a daisy as the light was softening at sunset.
