Mossel Bay Surprises With Beach and Beauty!

On my recent trip up the Garden Route I arranged to overnight in Mossel Bay, something I’d never done before, despite all of my time in the area. Sadly we had a busy schedule and only arrived after dark, but accommodation was at Bay Lodge on the Beach, which kid you not is right on the beach! Sleep came easy with the lulling sound of waves crashing so close by, something so magical to me a land locked girl …

Very early the next morning I took a walk on this long beautiful beach. The water was warm, but I admit I never swam, only braved knee deep with cameras in hand. There were so many people taking their exercise, it felt communal and friendly. It was.

I’ve decided to come back soon, for longer, and give Mossel Bay a better look. Yes it’s industrial, yes there are huge towering tanks too close to the ocean, but it has beautiful beaches, a rich history and awesome scuba diving, not to mention very friendly people. I’ll be back for more!

View from the room. Nice!

Brave swimmers take to the water – before 7am!

The old pier in use no longer.

Local gulls which are SO much bigger in reality than they appear in this photograph.
