My incredible friend Jen Goy started this year with a dream. Her dream was to produce a beautiful magazine which would serve as a welcome guide to Mental Wellness, something that affects 1 in 5 people. She’s done just this and its aptly named THRIVE as the focus is on getting well and staying well. As she says, it might mean taking medication, short-term or long-term, but it certainly means addressing lifestyle factors.

Thrive’s philosophy is based on psychiatrist Judy Bentley’s 8 Steps to Mental Wellness and with a panel of experts gives accurate information on mental health and illness, and even more importantly provides HOPE and INSPIRATION through lifestyle choices, diet and nutrition, as well as activities such as yoga, dance and even art

With Pick ‘n Pay onboard as sponsors, the magazine is free and can even be read and enjoyed online.

On a personal note, I have for 15 years been struggling with nasty damage to my brain as a result of multiple trauma, and only very recently discovered more about the daily battle between the healthy and broken parts. This magazine, thank you dear brilliant Jen, has taught me much about how to cope with my wellbeing and I will be seeking out each issue in a bid to understand more, and do what is best for me.

Moreover, I get a mention under Contributors for taking the food pics, which was such a pleasure to do. Plus we enjoyed eating the yummy wholesome food after our work was done. Congratulations Jen – you are an inspiring reminder that through hard work, self-love and belief, dreams do come true!
