One of the things I love most about the historic and beautifulwalled village of Rye and there are delis, tea rooms, antiques stores and amazing shopping is the 12th Century Mermaid Inn where I was lucky enough to spend a romantic but rather spooky night. See www.mermaidinn.com Unbelievable dining room, long uneven passages, wonky floors, leaded windows and underground cellars I did not want to be left in. A treat that takes me back to an era long gone ….
