South African Musicians SHOUT Against Crime!
Have you seen this? SA musicians Danny K and Kabelo Mabalane with local celebrities, recorded a remake of the 1980’s hit song ‘Shout’ by Tears for Fears in aid of a campaign sparked by the death of local reggae legend Lucky Dube who was killed in a botched hijacking in 2007.
Danny K, whose real name is Daniel Koppel, said he was deeply affected by the murder and vowed to do something about it. I had enough. I am a musician. I need to use what Lucky used to make a difference — and that is music. It was then that fate played its part when I discovered that my good friend Kabelo was recording a version of ‘Shout’,“ said Danny K.
The recording features a host of South African celebrities and musical superstars — including The Parlotones, Karen Zoid, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Freshly Ground, HHP, Lira, Prime Circle, Hugh Masakela, Watershed, Loyiso, Steve Hofmeyer, Louise Carver, Tasha Baxter, Kurt Darren and the world-famous Soweto Gospel Choir to name but a few.
The song is available at www.shoutsa.co.za as a download to your cellphone for R20 and proceeds will go to initiatives that support victims of crime and projects for crime prevention. Support it – I did!
