Talking about dinosaurs (cheeky), have you ever taken a closer look at the Louis Botha statue outside Cape Town’s Parliament buildings? He was the first Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa and a celebrated Boer war hero. Just after I left school I dated his great grandson for a while, and if that is anything to go by, freedom, passion and goodwill ran deep in his veins. Whatever political differences we may hold retrospectively, next time you’re in Roeland Street, take a closer look at him.
