The Kitchen in Woodstock.

I’d heard a lot about The Kitchen in Woodstock, a bustling eatery at 111 Sir Lowry Road in Woodstock, on the left just before Palms Market. But I’d never been. So when arranging to meet a girlfriend for a catch-up lunch on Wednesday, this is the spot we chose.

Arriving at 12h00 we joined the queue of eager patrons which extended out the door. We doubted we’d find a spot to sit but happily joined the bustle of happy hunger and waited our turn to be looked after. Which we were. In no time at all we had plates piled high with food, chairs in the window and a sense of satisfaction.

The Kitchen is well know for their legendary Love Sandwiches as well as their wonderful selection of unusual Salads, which you can enjoy with gammon, chicken or salmon trout. There are also loads of tempting sweet treats to enjoy with your coffee, such as Almond Croissants, Prosperity Bars, World Peace Brownies, Ginger Fudge Squares.

I had the salads, with an aubergine stack on the side for good measure. It was delicious. Whilst chatting away I noticed a constant flow of clients popping in either for a quick sit down or takeaway lunch. Then within the hour the whole place had quietened down and we were able to chat with the incredible woman who’s baby this is.

Karen Dudley simply put, makes yummy food. Which is not only served in The Kitchen, but can be ordered for functions and private parties. She’s there chatting away, offering you tasters of her latest creation, and making you feel like you’ve been invited into her home, rather than here thriving business.

Its people that make a place memorable, and that this is. No wonder Michelle Obama opted to lunch here with her daughters on her visit to Cape Town. That woman clearly knows stuff.

I recommend that you pop by, actually I urge you to do so.  Working hours are 8.30 to 4pm Monday to Friday. Take a camera and get a photo with Karen. The woman’s a wonder, so is her food, and this is a very special place quite simply called The Kitchen.
