The Klein Karoo’s lovely Ravenna Mountain Retreat.

Once the Karoo has hold of your heart, you’ll find yourself looking for reasons to return, to breath the clean air, walk the land and take in the big sky. Each time considering a different place to stay, to give a slightly different flavour to the unbeatable hospitality that one comes to expect from the region.

One of these place is Ravenna Mountain Retreat, where I have found much happiness before. My cousin Sandra Yeo visited last month, took the above photos and wrote this to me.

‘A lovely mountain retreat in the Klein Karoo between Barrydale and Montagu and home to Leresa Perlman Photography. Lots to do if you feel like being energetic, yet perfect if you opt to just chill out too. There is a small communal swimming pool next to one of the cottages and another larger pool next to the main house, which belongs to the owner’s father. However, the dam is the best place to swim!

Guest accommodation consists of seven comfortable fully equipped cottages, either self-catering or B&B. The secluded one bedroom cottage is ideal for honeymooners, complete with a Victorian bath and outside shower. (This is the one that I have stayed in – my Bio should include ‘fan of an outdoor shower’). Perfectly comfortable and we decided to treat ourselves to the breakfasts: very good! The staff are very friendly and the setting just gorgeous. I will certainly return.’

From an activities point of view there is hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, swimming, exploring, sheep meeting and general loveliness to enjoy. As well as simply relaxing in to the beauty of the place.

Some of Ravenna’s pics are included below:

More of Leresa’s work can be seen on her blog, Through the Lense. I absolutely love her portrait work. Leresa offers numerous photographic workshops at Ravenna, which certainly does offer the perfect backdrop for it.

To book Ravenna, which I highly recommend you do next time you need an escape to the country, email themat info@ravenna.co.za or call Laresa on 023 6141492 and 79 4973372.
