The papal alter with its four colossal columns marks the place where St Peter was buried. A  Peter would be impressed with the great honour, the Basilica itself is 187m long, between 58 and 140 m wide and as tall as 46m at the highest point – as tall as a 15 story building.tomb was found with the marking “here lies Peter” and on this today in the magnificent Basilica with the Dome above it.
