Thursday demos with Reuben and Vicky. Doesn’t that sound like a wonderful way to spend a Wintery evening, especially when the One and Only Cape Town is involved. One of my absolute favourite city spots. Last week I was lucky enough to be invited by Ian and Lise Manley of Manley Communications, to join a group of true lovelies from the local food scene to experience just that.
Reuben and his Chef de cuisine Victoria Stott will be interacting upfront every Thursday evening and were there demonstrating some of Reuben’s signature dishes. Reuben was as charming as always, and its obvious why he is such a household name, warmly respected and appreciated for what he continues to contribute to SA food.
The menu is diverse and the food delicious. I opted for the vegetarian options – Leek soup, unbelievable Gnocchi and Liquorice Ice-cream, which was amazing! The rest of the group feasted on smoked salmon, soy braised pork, slow baked lamb shank and other delicious offerings that seriously tempted a revert to carnivore.
The thing that I love most about Reuben’s, and the One and Only, is that even though they offer the very best Five Star service that we could hope for, they’ve maintained a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. A magical accomplishment that … Whether it’s time at the Vista Bar & Lounge, the Spa or attending one of the events and talks that they have lined up over the next few months, I always enjoy any time there. And I certainly recommend a few Thursday evenings in Reuben’s company.
