Perhaps some may tire of the amount of anti-poaching posts that I put up, but I am filled with compassion for these ‘fat grey unicorns we call rhinos’ and need to create awareness to the fact that they are under tremendous threat. In South Africa alone 250 rhino have been killed this year. Last weeks attack on three rhinos at the Aquila Private Game Reserve in the Western Cape, and the brave fight by ABSA to survive after he was dehorned and mutilated with a chainsaw, is heart wrenching. Sadly ABSA lost his battle, but we owe it to him to fight for those that survive.
Here is an article by White Wolf Pack, I also recommend a look at one onGreen Times. The poem by a 14 year old boy in tribute to the death of ABSA brings tears to my eyes, an excerpt below.
But we all know that your death was not in vain
We will stand together and try to save the rest
Let your spirit roam free in everyone’s heart
My desire is to use my love and passion for our wildlife to fight for conservation, preservation and life. I look within. I create awareness. I hope for hope.
