Willowmore – More than a Dusty Karoo Town!

The quaint Karoo town of Willowmore on the N9 is regarded by too many as little more than a drive through spot. Luckily though there are enough people that know better and allow themselves to experience the freedom that being off the beaten track provides.

Little towns are the heart and soul of the Karoo. Originally founded to meet religious needs of the sporadically placed farms of the region, each village has as its focal point a church of some description – more often than not a Dutch Reformed church with a steeple in Church Street ;0 Willowmore was originally laid out on the farm Willow in 1862.

Today some of the attractions not be missed are the antique store, Sophie’s Choice which offers an incredible selection of items on sale, truly yummy food and a great wine list, and if time allows a ride on the Willo-Limo. Or at least pay the R10+ to have a photo taken of these beautifully kept and much loved donkeys that brighten up a visit. When next in the area – linger all you can, and breath in the fine Karoo air and atmosphere.
