A Feast to Behold at Steenberg’s Catharina’s Restaurant

I love food, but not in a way that inspires me to spend hours in the kitchen producing a worldly wonder – although I know how – but rather in a way that allows me to recognize the importance of good food, especially when coupled with family and friends, and honoring the symbolism of sharing.

My husband Roger, daughter Jess and two special friends from London dined at Steenberg’s Catharina Restaurant for lunch yesterday. A Sunday buffet of the highest order, with everything from yummy salads and greens to smoked salmon and mussels to three roasts with traditional Yorkshire Pudding. The dessert table was heavily laden with offerings from crème bruleé, chocolate mousse, brownies, apple crumble, fresh fruit, a selection of South African cheese – everything! Wow Wow Wow!

The decor is understated and magnificently done. The staff efficient, friendly and warm. The setting is among the Vineyards with the Constantia Mountains as backdrop – just gorgeous. I couldn’t fault a thing – except that I hopelessly over ate! No discipline! But a lovely walk between the trees left us with a lovely calm and less discomfort …. ;0

The art of slow lunches – one to uphold. Especially at Catharina’s on a Sunday. Catharina’s is at the Steenberg Hotel www.steenberghotel.com
