Do you feel as though you need to practice self-care a little more whilst travelling? If so then this is the guide for you. Here you will find out what steps you can take to look after yourself more whilst on the go, and in turn enjoy your holiday to the max without impacting your health in general.

Commit to a Digital Detox

The first thing you need to do is commit to a detox. This is by far one of the most beneficial self-care remedies you could hope to embrace. Whether you are travelling solo or with your loved ones, try and keep screen time to a minimum. Be present in the moment and put your laptop and phone away. If you can, make sure that you disconnect from your WiFi and that you spend some time reconnecting with yourself. If you can do this, along with your surroundings then you will soon find that it is easier for you to start focusing on your self-care more. Commitments do persist at the end of the day, and unfortunately, this is even the case when you are on holiday. If a full detox isn’t possible then at least try and make sure that you don’t sit down with your device at a meal. There is no denying that the setting and the food are going to be Instagram-worthy, so maybe try and ask a member of your party to bring one phone to the meal so you can get the snaps you want. Make sure that you put it on airplane mode though and take a step away from connectivity.

Follow the Sun

At home, you may find that it is difficult to make time for everything. This is especially the case if you are living with everyday chaos. A great way for you to charge your soul would be for you to commit to watching the sunset or the sunrise every single day. One thing to take note of here is that no two sunsets or sunrises are ever the same. If you can take a second to just sit and appreciate the colours as the night draws to a gentle conclusion then this will help you to set your own pace as well as your intentions. Golden hour is by far the best hour, so if you notice that the sun is rising then make sure that you grab a coffee and take it all in. Make sure that you celebrate the moment as well as the view. Look up at the stars and make sure that you just take a moment for yourself. If you can do this then you will soon find that it is easier for you to take in the cinematics that Mother Nature is delivering to you.

Troubles to Bubbles

Make sure that you take time to use a big bathtub if you have one. Even if you’re not a bath person at home, you should remember that being abroad presents a very different situation. Baths are best enjoyed when you have a glass of bubbly in hand, so make sure that you incorporate this into your routine if possible. If you are going to a very hot or humid environment then you may find that your hair ends up drying out, which can present a lot of problems. If you want to stop this from happening then one thing you can do is opt for a shampoo that is free from sulfates. It’s very easy for you to find no sulfate shampoo online, and if you pack some in your bag, you can look forward to having luscious locks all the time.

Linger a Little Longer

Even though you might be on holiday, travel can still wear you out quite a lot. This is especially the case when you take into account the fact that some countries have new protocols in place for travellers. If you want to get more out of your travel journey then one thing you can do is try and opt for a slow and satisfying approach. If you can do this with travel then you won’t spend as much time rushing from A to B. You will also experience way less travel burnout as a result. Spending time in one place will enable you to have a healthier balance, not to mention that you will have a stress-free itinerary too. You will be able to take a few guilt-free days off which you can spend lazing by the pool. Make sure that you spend a bit of time enjoying your meals and that you don’t hurry through things too much either. If you can do this then you will soon find that it is easier for you to get the experience you want.

Stay in your Suite

Travellers often find that they are in such a rush to squeeze as much into their day as possible, that they forget to leave some time to just relax. Don’t be afraid of doing this and know that there is nothing to feel guilty about./ Make sure that you use the “do not disturb” sign that you have and enjoy the place you’re paying to stay in. From nice plush duvets to room service and a view, most of the time, your resort will offer you a lot of comfort. You might not get this kind of luxury every day either, so why not make the most out of it while you are travelling? The great thing about doing this is that it gives you the chance to unwind and make sure that you are not always on the go, which is often the case when travelling.

Talk to People

Real talk, and not just idle talk is one of the best ways for you to practice self-care. It allows you to take in the rich tapestry of your travels and it also gives you experiences that will live on in your memory. You can do this long after the holiday is over, so make sure that you keep this in mind.  Everyone has a story to tell, whether it is the porter, the general manager or even the brickmaker who is working outside. If you can take the time to listen to their stories and if you can seek them out with your heart then this will help you to make the most out of your travel experience.

Walk it Off

Even the lazy holidays can instil a sense of cabin fever. Whether you are on a remote island or whether you are in the middle of an enchanting forest, you may find that sometimes a long walk is just what you need to give your mental health a bit of a boost. As adrenaline-filled as a safari sounds, one thing to take note of is that you will be sitting on the edge of a seat for a good part of the day. If you add this to the fact that you will be dining out a lot, you will soon find that gaining weight is an unfortunate reality. If you want to do something about this then one thing you can do is simply go out on a walk when you have a bit of free time. Your mental health will get a real boost if you do this, and you may even find that it is the best way for you to ground and revere yourself in the current moment.

Count Memories

If you are rather health-conscious about going away because you feel as though you are going to engorge quite a lot then one thing you can do to try and help yourself to stop this would be for you to count memories and not calories. Try everything you can, and don’t be afraid to have a glass of wine or even some dessert. It’s always five o’clock somewhere. Remember that calories don’t count when you are on holiday unless you are going away for months at a time. If you can keep this in mind, while walking now and again just to boost your mental health and get your blood pumping then you will soon find that it is easier for you to start focusing on yourself a little more so make sure that you keep this in mind.

Have Breakfast in Bed

The next thing you need to do is make sure that you have breakfast in bed. Put out a sign that says do-not-disturb and tuck into some warm buttered toast. If you can do this then you will soon find that you can get the energy you need for the day while enjoying a really tasty bite to eat. Sometimes downtime like this is just what you need when you are on holiday and it also gives you the chance to focus on your mental health more too, so make sure that you keep that in mind if you can as it’ll make a major difference to you overall.
