Kenya. – Today I leave for Kenya and more specifically a week working with the Local Ocean Trust and Turtle Watch as well as discovering the Wonders of Watamu, who will be hosting me and my favourite travel buddy Linda Markovina.
Local Ocean Trust is a private, not for profit organisation committed to the protection of Kenya’s marine environment. They love the ocean as much as I do and use practical conservation, community involvement and development in their work. I cannot wait to learn from them.
In every way, this is a dream come true for me.
All this is an area of Kenya that is new to me, Watamu. A beautiful and peaceful village on the East Coast, set between pristine beaches and lush tropical forest. Since it was first settled as a remote Swahili outpost at Gedi, this area has remained a haven of peace and tranquility and is still one of the coast’s most undeveloped and natural areas. Known for its unique, relaxed and laid back way of life, which is sure to offer a perfect balance to the work we do.
We’re making our way back by bus, ferry and then train between Mombasa to Nairobi. Keeping the experience real. East Africa – coming for you!
Special thanks to Damian Cook for facilitating all arrangements.
