Italy. – Lately, I have been thinking about Italy.

Remembering specifically my visit to Porto Ercole on Monte Argentario, an island off the Tuscan coast, in the Province of Grosseto. One of the two major towns here, alongside the better known Porto Santo Stefano. Its name means “Port Hercules”.

Staying right on the water in the Bi Hotel, the time there was divided between coastal walks, scuba diving in the Marine Reserve, climbing to the top of the fort, eating and exploring the cobbled streets. Also most importantly, people watching.

Here are some pics to offer an idea of this beautiful place.

What is the fatal charm of Italy? What do we find there that can be found nowhere else? I believe it’s a certain permission to be human, which other places, other countries, lost long ago.  – Erica Jong
