Pet-friendly restaurants in Cape Town (and in Joburg and Pretoria) are the best kind of restaurants and ENTERTAINER have invited me to share their recently published post on the best pet-friendly restaurants in our city. Because we all know how difficult it is to leave our beloved besties at home with those puppy eyes and the soft whimper fueling the guilt. The way that he watches you leave from the front door, and then to top it off when you get home and the little guy is sleeping exactly where you left him. Waiting for your return. It’s enough to keep you at home forever.

Southern Suburbs
1. LA PARADA | Constantia Nek
Every Capetonian knows this beautiful restaurant en route to Hout Bay. You know, the old building at the Constantia Nek circle that serves amazing food. Well, not only is this restaurant delicious, historical and beautiful, but it’s also a dog-friendly restaurant, which is way more important, right!? 2. LIME TREE CAFE | Bergvliet
This little Begvliet cafe has raving reviews for a few reasons. The first, obviously, is that they welcome your furry friends with open arms. 3. THE GARDENER’S COTTAGE | Newlands
Who doesn’t love the sound of clinking plates and muted chatter whilst enjoying tea and scones under the trees overlooking a little nursery? Literally, no one. At The Gardener’s Cottage in Newlands, you’ll get all that, and your pooch will get to enjoy it too. Although it is a dog-friendly restaurant, keep his paws off the scones, please. 4. JONKERSHUIS | Groot Constantia
Jonkershuis is an outdoor eatery that offers spectacular vineyard views while your little barking bae soaks up the sun and gets some treats sneaked to her from your charcuterie board. The restaurant will provide a water bowl. Just remember, to follow their etiquette tips before bringing your pets to this dog-friendly restaurant – leashes are a must. 5. RHODES MEMORIAL RESTAURANT & TEA GARDEN | Rondebosch
If you’ve got a pup that loves a good walk, the forestry area around Rhodes Memorial is your best bet. The main reason to do the walk is actually for the halfway stop at The Rhodes Memorial Tea Garden. There’s enough shade for your hot doggo to squeeze in rest too. 6. A TOUCH OF MADNESS | Observatory
A Touch of Madness is an unassuming little Obs house that you wouldn’t even know was a restaurant if it weren’t for the hordes of people sitting on the stoep and in the garden. Atlantic Seaboard
7. THE VINE | Hout Bay
The Vine is a must for the sporty human-and-dog duo. Set in the heart of the Atlantic Seaboard’s best running, cycling, and hiking routes; this dog-friendly restaurant and sports shop is open every day from 6.30 a.m. You know what that means, right!? 8. MASSIMO’S | Hout Bay
Puppacino sound good? How about some ostrich biltong, or a teeth-brushing chewy? At Massimo’s your pooch can order off their doggy menu. If he’s not sure what to order, we recommend the ‘Oh My Dog!’ for a decadent dish or the “Kim Jong Un” for adorable pics of your pup with a bone-shaped pizza. 9. SOTANO | Mouille Point
Sea view. Cappuccino. 2-for-1 meal. Almost seems too good to be true, right? Well, it’s not. This is literally what Sotano offers and it’s just across the road from the promenade, which means your fur-baby can squeeze in a bit of exercise before brekkie. This restaurant offers a 2-for-1 discount on the ENTERTAINER App.
10. LEOPARD BAR AT 12 APOSTLES | Camps Bay
So, it’s your pup’s birthday and you’re not sure how to show him just how much you care? Well, Leopard Bar to the rescue! With a first-class pet menu, views to pine for, and the best cocktails to cheers with, your posh pooch will get spoilt like the queen she is. 11. STROLLA | Sea Point
Strolla is a beautifully decorated dog-friendly restaurant with an authentic Sea Point vibe. It’s sea-breezy, laid back, and is perfect for people-watching, enjoying salty sea smells, and sipping on a post-walkies cocktail. 12. HARVEY’S BAR AT THE WINCHESTER MANSIONS | Sea Point
Another winner for Sea Point’s canines is Harvey’s. Set in the almost-100-year-old building, Winchester Mansions Hotel is beautiful. 13. THE STRANGERS CLUB | Green Point
The Strangers Club, a 1900s Panama inspired space, is going to have your hound wishing he was wearing a bow tie and smoking a cigar whilst you tuck into a coffee and smoothie bowl (served in the dreamiest crockery). Once you’ve filled the tum, you’ve just got to pop into their retail store for a quick look – although the restaurant is dog-friendly, please go to the store without your four-legged friend. 15. ROXY ALL DAY | Gardens
Roxy All Day is the perfect spot for the more eclectic doggo. Set in the heart of one of our favourite foodie neighbourhoods, Woodstock, this gorgeous coffee shop is dog-friendly, kid-friendly, and offers only good vibes. This restaurant offers a 2-for-1 discount on the ENTERTAINER App.

19. JESSY’S WAFFLES | Gardens
Not sure if you feel like a waffle this morning? Do yourself a favour and Google Jessy’s Waffles. Not only will you feel like a waffle every morning for the rest of the year, but you’ll also be able to finally become a vegan without the stress of having nothing delicious to eat. 20. TIGER’S MILK | Century City, Stellenbosch, Kloof St, Claremont, Village Square, Camps Bay
Tiger’s Milk has really become one of Cape Town’s, if not South Africa’s, best chains. Each branch offers a fantastic standard of food and drinks, a good vibe, and a personal touch. 21. PEPPA JACKS | Durbanville
Everybody loves a bit of Tex-Mex, and Peppa Jacks offers just that. Plus a family friendly vibe, pet-friendly outdoor seating, and weekly live entertainment. 22. KOFFI TERAPI | Durbanville

23. ALTYDGEDACHT | Durbanville
Altydgedacht is a wine estate where you just know your pet is more than welcome. 24. BISTRO BONBON | Franschhoek
Bistro BonBon is a dreamy restaurant set in the fairytale-like garden at Le Petite Dauphine Guest Farm in Franschhoek. It’s one of those places that you can go to for a family lunch, or wine and dine with the girls. Whichever reason you choose to visit BonBon, don’t leave behind your furry best friend. Die Damhuis in Melkbosstrand, one of Cape Town’s best dog-friendly beaches, fittingly offers your pets their very own menu. 28. OUDE WELLINGTON RESTAURANT | Wellington
Oude Wellington is another one of Cape Town’s pet-friendly restaurants that just can’t be skipped. We know that Wellington is a bit of a haul, but it’s totally worth a memorable road trip with your doggo. Remember, you’ve only got about fifteen years with him, make every second count. Just remember that, although these restaurants are pet-friendly, you must bring along a leash, water bowls, food, and poop packets, not all the restaurants will provide these.
