Long past are the days when a cup of coffee came out of a tin and took two minutes to make. The craft has truly come full circle and artisans are being offered appreciation for the passion, skill and care they bring their homegrown beans. I met Alexandre Dijoux of Noute Kafé at the Festival, who demonstrated the art by hand shelling, roasting and grinding the beans to perfection, before making a cup of coffee that had me stopped at the moment, savouring the taste. Actually, I never knew Reunion grew their own coffee, let alone that products such as this, their Bourbon Bond, held the worth that it does. Oh, and I had a second cup. Who could refuse the offer when it had been handcrafted and finely finished, before my very eyes. Add drink good coffee to your to-do list when visiting the Island.
