Switzerland. – Last December as a guest of Swiss International Air Lines, I joined a group of fun loving, adventurous South Africans to travel to Switzerland with Danica Helfrich, Head of SWISS South Africa. For 4 days she showed us around this beautiful country, ensuring that we all were left in love with Switzerland, specifically in Winter.
For some of us it was our first snow experience, for others the first proper Christmas market experience and for most the first cheese fondue experience.
Our trip is being documented on the South African Swiss International Air Lines Facebook page, starting this Monday, and for a period of 4 weeks. Become a fan of the page and check out what we got up to. Also, at the end there’s a @flyswiss trip for two to Switzerland to give away.

Enjoying some Winter sunshine with Danica while on a walking in Vevey.

The travel experts were myself as a travel blogger and Nigel Pierce, a Good Hope FM DJ, with his own travel blog.

The foodie and fashionista travellers Lentswe Bhengu, a chef with his own YouTube channel and Linda Sifumba, a stylist and the first winner of “She is the One”.

The sporty and adventurous guys: Ryan Scott, a runner and freelance writer and Chad Meihuizen, who organised and participated in a non-stop run from Pretoria to Cape Town raising funds for Alzheimer’s.

“Our trip started with a visit to the amazing Engelberg ski resort,” says Dawn. “#TeamSWISSZA travelled up the mountain in a rotating cable car, which was incredibly special. The views are overwhelming and the ice was brilliant white with a blue tinge, dotted with the colourful outfits of the skiers. Up in the restaurant, everyone was smiling and chatting over a hot chocolate, and you are reminded what a healthy and wholesome pastime skiing is.”

“I have never been in heavy snow before, so the trip to Engelberg was really special,” says Chad. “It was obviously my first time taking ski lifts as well. It was like taking our Cape Town cable car up a snow-covered Table Mountain… only 4 times higher! I’m terrified of heights, so walking across the suspension bridge was not the most enjoyable moment for me. Although the rest of the team seemed to love it, I was pretty terrified!”
Take a look at Winter Wonderland with Swiss International Air Lines in my video to get your interest piqued, with visits to Lucerne, Engelberg-Titlus, the Montreux Riviera, Vevey, Saas-Fee and Bern. Staying at Hotel Waldstätterhof Luzern, Eurotel Montreux and The Capra Saas-Fee as we took in Christmas markets, ate traditional Swiss food, did city walking and scooter tours and had lessons in chocolate making and skiing.
