Symphony of the Soil. A Cape Town Soil For Life Screening.

Symphony of the Soil

Check your diaries and make a note, there’ll be an exclusive gala screening of the award-winning documentary Symphony of the Soil at the Labia Theatre in support of Soil for Life. US based film-maker Deborah Koons Garcia has given permission for Soil for Life to host the South African premiere of Symphony of Soil, as she believes her film’s message resonates with the work of this pioneering not-for-profit organisation and will highlight the urgency of rehabilitating our planet’s most precious resource – the soil.

“We’re on a mission to build healthy soil, people and communities,” says Pat Featherstone, founder of Soil for Life. “Feeding the soil is the first step in feeding ourselves.”

Symphony of the Soil explores how different types of soil life as a complex and mysterious ecosystem, thriving on nutrition and care. Filmed in Israel, India, USA and UK, the film spotlights the efforts of scientists, farmers and foodies to transform dead dirt into living soil, feeding natural compost, growing cover-crops and using drip irrigation to miraculously regenerate the soil. Jeanette Catsoulis from the ‘New York Times’ describes how this “ode to the miracle of the Earth’s topmost layer gives us a newfound respect for the ground beneath our feet.” This is an important conversation to be had.

This gala fundraising event will be held at 6.30 pm on Sunday 14 August and promises to be enlightening, educational and entertaining, with comedian and eco-warrior Nik Rabinowitz as MC. Tickets are R200 per person and include delicious plant-based snacks, popcorn, and a glass of Stellar Organic wine. All profits will go to Soil for Life and will in turn, help change the world one garden at a time.
