Sozo Foundation. – The Sozo Foundation is a non-profit organisation based in Cape Town’s Cape Flats Vrygrond community and was founded to help create opportunities for holistic development through youth development, education, health and wellbeing, and skills development.

They recently got in touch with me to let me know about the five projects they are running and their newly added Youth Café.

Opened on Tuesday 30th May 2016, The Sozo Foundation’s Youth Café for NEETs in Vrygrond (Young people who are Not in Education, Employment or Training) is a partnership with the Department of Social Development.

This is what they sent me about it:

The Youth Cafe will provide a safe and vibrant space to cultivate mind-shifts in young people. In a community where young people are negatively impacted by gangsterism, abuse and crime, the Youth Café will be providing sustainable economic and employment growth amongst young people from the age of 16-25 by providing services, opportunities and support which promote well-being, social capital and skills through workshops and internships.

The Sozo Foundation has partnered with businesses and organisations inside and outside of Vrygrond who can offer internships for young adults, which will lead to work experience and full time jobs. The mission for the project is to see all young adults in education, employment or training. As part of the life skills the youth will socialise and learn how love each other within their own community so that they reach their full potential.

The Launch and Open Day will be a morning event which will see the youth of Vrygrond enter the space for the first time. They will hear about the project and be able to sample a cup of coffee made by one of the Youth Café interns who are currently on an intensive 8 week Barista course. There will be short introductory workshops in each of the streams that will be part of the programme – technical skills – handyman training, Hospitality, Digital – graphic design and coding and Business Entrepreneurship. It will be an exciting and an event that will bring hope to the young people of the community.

The Sozo Foundation’s vision is to see the community of Vrygrond living with dignity, purpose and hope. They live by their motto helping people to know they’re loved, so they can love others. A great pleasure to connect!
