The world is full of enticing and exciting cities and be it as a first-time visitor or as an irresistible return to one of our favourite places, travellers are spoilt for choice. If you’re looking for some guidance though, these are some of the world’s most exciting cities.
Paris, France
Don’t miss a visit to Paris, the city of romance and love, culture and history. Visit the Eiffel Tower, be enamoured by the French architecture, indulge in a meal at a Parisian restaurant, and get photographed under the Arc de Triomphe. Definitely walk the Avenue des Champs-Elysees – even doing a little shopping if the budget allows.

Atlantic City, U.S.A.
When people think of the United States of America, they may think of cities such as New York or Los Angeles, but the US has so much more to offer and I’d suggest you visit Atlantic City if you’re looking for an exciting experience. The capital of the state of Georgia, it played an important part in both the Civil War and the 1960s Civil Rights Movement. Atlanta History Center chronicles the city’s past and the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site is dedicated to the African-American leader’s life and times.
Downtown, Centennial Olympic Park, built for the 1996 Olympics, encompasses the massive Georgia Aquarium and has a fun water feature that draws the sun revellers in the Summer months. The city offers some of the best entertainment at Playground Pier with its underwater themed luxury shopping mall. You might also want to visit the Borgata Spa. It has amazing facilities just perfect if you’re looking for a relaxing afternoon; you could even stay in the hotel.
The Atlanta Botanical Garden sits adjacent to Piedmont Park and has a number of different sections, each highlighting a different region, plant, or animal type. These include a Japanese garden, a rose garden, woodland areas and a children’s garden. Don’t miss a visit to the impressive CNN Center, the World of Coca-Cola and the Georgia Aquarium.
Manchester, England.
This may be a surprise inclusion as most visitors to England, focus their time on London, a vibrant and understandably popular destination. However, it’s not the only place that England has to offer, look to Manchester too, known as the country’s Northern Powerhouse, it is fast emerging onto the international tourist’s radar. The Castlefield conservation area’s 18th-century canal system recalls the city’s days as a textile powerhouse, and visitors can trace this history at the interactive Museum of Science & Industry. The revitalised Salford Quays dockyards houses the Daniel Libeskind-designed Imperial War Museum North and the Lowry cultural centre.
Manchester also has an impressive nightlife and foodie scene with new dining establishments seemingly arriving in the city every week. If you’re a vegetarian or a vegan (like me), then here you’ll have some of the best options in the country. Although everybody should check out V-Rev – a vegan restaurant that sells doughnut burgers! If you’ve never had one, you’re missing out. Try the Breakout escape rooms if you’re looking for a lively experience, as well as the Trafford Centre for some shopping.
Tokyo, Japan.
Toky, Japan’s busy capital, mixes the ultramodern and the traditional, from neon-lit skyscrapers to historic temples. The opulent Meiji Shinto Shrine is known for its towering gate and surrounding woods. The Imperial Palace sits amid large public gardens, while the city’s many museums offer exhibits ranging from classical art (in the Tokyo National Museum) to a reconstructed kabuki theatre (in the Edo-Tokyo Museum).
The world’s most populous metropolis, Tokyo it consists of 23 central city wards and multiple cities, towns and villages to the west of the city centre. Visit the historic Tokyo Station. It’s not only historically fascinating but also visually intriguing. Amidst a sea of modern highrises, it’s refreshing to see an older piece of architecture sitting in the middle of the city.
Take a day and head to Mount Fuji. Located just south-west of Tokyo, this magnificent natural structure is a breath of fresh air after being in the busy and crowded streets of the city. It’s one of Japan’s “Three Holy Mountains”, and you’ll see why it’s earned that privilege when you witness it yourself. Climbing the mountain is an incredibly rewarding experience and is definitely the pride and joy of Japan.
