I didn’t know I liked Martinis … Until Zeavola Resort’s GM Florian Hallerman ordered me their signature Tom Yam Martini as I sat with my feet in the sand just metres from the lapping waves, having dinner under a warm inky sky. On both nights of my stay, without asking, my ice-cold salt-rimmed cocktail glass was delivered, the protruding stick of lemongrass closely resembling a straw in the soft light. It was spicy and delicious with a bite that complimented my vegetarian Thai curry and the seductive mood.
Once back, I wrote and asked for the recipe so I could share it here: 45ml of Vodka, 15ml of Triple Sec, 60ml of Lemon Juice, 2g of chopped Lime, 2g finely chopped Chilies, a stick of Lemongrass and a dash of sugar syrup. Mix it all in a cocktail shaker and pour it into a pre-chilled salt-rimmed glass. Make enough for more than one and sit as you savour the familiar spices, in a drink. It is true that senses are often heightened when we travel, although I’ve tried this recipe since getting home, and even though I couldn’t mimic the ingredients exactly, it was equally tasty.
