Botswana. – A beautiful female impala shows us her distinct markings, as though carefully painted on. Although most commonly sighted on many southern African game drives, they should not be overlooked, but rather admired for their resilience, family structures and survival skills.

The territorial males hold court over large harems of females, with bachelor herds tending to be smaller, with less than 30 members. Rutting males fight over dominance and strut around noisily chasing each other off during mating season. If you’re staying in a reserve at this time, prepare to be kept awake by the distinguishable grunts and roars.
